Beschreibung
Zur Abgabe kommt ein schöner original redburst / tocotronic lackierter Höfner 185 shortscale Bass, mit den berühmten Super Nova Pickups aus dem Jahre 1966. Die Premium Variante von Höfner seinerseits mit den schönen Griffbrettinlays und dem Binding am Hals. Es handelt sich hierbei um richtig gute Bässe, die sich von den großen nicht verstecken müssen, sofern Sie richtig gewartet und eingestellt sind….hier haben wir einen von mir und mit seinen nur 2,82kg einer der leichteren der Sorte. Typisch für 1966 hat dieser 185 nur drei Kontrol-Regler, ein kleines Facelift was die Serie in dem Jahr bekommen hat.
Der Bass ist von 1966! Entsprechend hat er Gebrauchsspuren! Der Lack ist übersehen von Macken, Dings und Dongs, Kratzer und Rissen. An den Cutaways an der Halstasche finden sich auf jeder Seite zwei Risse – Diese habe ich geprüft und es sind keine Schäden am Korpus, sondern lediglich typische Lack-Spannungsrisse wie wir Sie auch von anderen großen Herstellern kennen. Dennoch ist der Lack sehr schön erhalten und hat noch einen sehr schönen kräftigen Glanz. Das Schlagbrett hat ebenfalls einige Kratzer und Abnutzungen und unten im Bereich des Halstonabnehmers Risse – Sollte auf den Bildern gut sichtbar sein. Diese wurden von mir behandelt. Die Schrift der Tonabnehmerauswahlschalter ist noch sehr gut leserlich. Der Steg Tonabnehmer wurde von mir neu gewickelt. Von mir gewickelte Tonabnehmer sind authentisch. Ich verwende den gleichen Draht-Typ; dasselbe Tape und Kreppmaterial; die gleiche Windungsrichtung; selbe Windungsanzahl; gleiche Zusammenbautechnik – Es gibt keinen hörbaren Unterschied zu einem Original. Alle Tonabnehmer funktionieren, sowie jeder Schalter und Drehpoti. Ein Poti ist ein Austauschpoti, ebenso habe ich teilweise die Elektronik zurück auf Original verdrahtet, da Sie in der Vergangenheit einmal veränder wurde – Es sind aber noch alle originalen Kondensatoren und Widerstände vorhanden. Die Bünde sind im sehr guten Zustand und abgerichtet. Eine Neubundierung ist noch nicht erforderlich. Der Hals ist gerade und benötigt kaum Halsstabspannung. Das 3D-Hofner Logo an der Kopfplatte wurde an einer kleinen Stelle repariert. Es war nachträglich ein zweiter String Tree für die tiefen E und A Saiten verbaut. Diesen habe ich wieder entfernt und das Loch geschlossen, da diese nicht mehr benötigt werden jetzt wo ich den Bass richtig eingestellt habe. Es war auch einmal eine andere Brücke verbaut, die aber überhaupt nicht auf den Bass gepasst hat. Die Löcher habe ich verschlossen und werden zum Glück nahezu mit der original Höfner Brücke abgedeckt, die ich auf dem Bass verbaut habe. Die Gurthalter sind ebenfalls gegen stabile Fender-Style Gurthalter getauscht wurden.
Anmerkung! Die Schaltung an diesem Bass ist Vintage! Entsprechend können die Regler die Tonabnehmer gegenseitig beeinflussen. Das ist kein Fehler, sondern original Höfner Verdrahtung!
Der Bass hat von mir eine umfassende Überholung bekommen. Der Lack wurde von mir umfassend gereinigt, desinfiziert und aufpoliert. Mechaniken wurden gereinigt und neu geschmiert. Gesamte Elektrik behandelt, gereinigt und geprüft. Der Hals eingestellt für eine super Saitenlage. Griffbrett und Bünde gesäubert, behandelt, geölt und Geschliffen. Der Höfner 185 ist Bundrein und eingestellt.
Ihr seid normalerweise von mir die Bilder auf Steinboden gewöhnt. Ich bin in einen neuen Laden umgezogen und suche noch nach einer guten Foto-Location. Daher solange solche Bildaufnahmen 😊

Here we have a beautiful original redburst / tocotronic lacquered Höfner 185 shortscale bass with the famous Super Nova pickups from 1966. The Höfner premium version with the beautiful fretboard inlays and the binding on the neck. These are really good basses that don’t have to hide from the big ones as long as they are properly maintained and adjusted … here we have one of mine and with its 2.82kg one of the lighter ones of the variety. Typical for 1966, this 185 only has three control knobs, a small facelift that the series got in that year.
The bass is from 1966! Accordingly, it has signs of wear! The lacquer is overlooked by quirks, dings and dongs, scratches and cracks. On the cutaways on the neck pocket there are two cracks on each side – I checked them and there are no damages to the body, just typical lacquer stress cracks as we know them from other large manufacturers. Nevertheless, the paint is beautifully preserved and still has a very nice strong gloss. The pickguard also has some scratches and wear and cracks in the area of the neck pickup – should be clearly visible in the pictures. These were treated by me. The font of the pickup selector switch is still very legible. The bridge pickup was rewound by me. Pickups I have wound are authentic. I use the same type of wire; the same tape and crepe material; the same direction of winding; same number of turns; Same assembly technique – there is no audible difference to an original. All pickups work as well as every switch and potentiometer. A potentiometer is an exchange potentiometer, I also partially wired the electronics back to the original, as they were changed in the past – but all original capacitors and resistors are still in there. The frets are in very good state and dressed. A refret is not yet necessary. The neck is straight and hardly requires truss rod tension. The 3D Hofner logo on the headstock was repaired in a small area. A second string tree was subsequently installed for the deep E and A strings. I removed this again and closed the hole, since they are no longer needed now that I have set the bass correctly. Another bridge was also installed, but it didn’t fit the bass at all. I closed the holes and luckily they are almost covered with the original Höfner bridge, which I installed on the bass. The strap button holders have also been exchanged for stable Fender-style strap holders.
Annotation! The circuitry wiring on this bass is vintage! Accordingly, the controls can mutually influence the pickups. This is not a mistake, it‘s original Höfner wiring!
The bass has received a comprehensive overhaul from me. The lacquer was cleaned, disinfected and polished by me. Mechanics were cleaned and relubricated. All electric treated, cleaned and checked. The neck adjusted for a super string action. Fretboard and frets cleaned, treated, oiled and sanded. The Höfner 185 is octave clean and setuped.
