Ein schöner 185 Höfner Artist Shortscale Bass von 1963. Drückender dicker Sound aus den 60er, eine Meisterleistung von Höfner seinerseits. Sehr schönes seltenes Stück – Normalerweise ist das Tolex in der Snakeskin-Optik und auf der Rückseite Schwarz – Hier wurde ein anderes Muster verwendet und der Bass ist komplett in weißem Tolex.
Der Bass hat die berühmten Staple Bar Pickups eingebaut – dieselben die auch im 500/1 Violin Bass von McCartney verbaut waren/sind aus demselben Jahr
Der Bass ist von 1963! Entsprechend hat er Gebrauchsspuren! Das weiße Tolex hat über die Jahre einen Creme Touch bekommen. Es ist nicht komplett gleichmäßig gegilbt. An den Seiten zeigt es kaum Schrumpfungen und der schwarze Keder ist noch super erhalten und liegt überall komplett an. Das Schlagbrett ist Rissfrei, hat allerdings Kratzer. Glänzt und spiegelt aber noch sehr schön. Der Allgemeinzustand ist sehr gepflegt, aber man sieht dem Instrument das Alter an. Der Hals wurde rückseitig neu schwarz lackiert. Die Mechanik der D Seite geht etwas schwergängiger als die anderen, arbeitet aber zuverlässig. Ein Mechanikhülse fehlt an der G-Mechanik. Beide Tonabnehmer, bzw. 3 von 4 Spulen aus den Humbuckern wurden von mir neu gewickelt. Von mir gewickelte Tonabnehmer sind authentisch. Ich verwende den gleichen Draht-Typ; dasselbe Tape und Kreppmaterial; die gleiche Windungsrichtung; selbe Windungsanzahl; gleiche Zusammenbautechnik – Es gibt keinen hörbaren Unterschied zu einem Original. Die Regler arbeiten rausch und knackfrei.
Der Bass hat von mir eine umfassende Überholung bekommen. Das Vinyl wurde von mir umfassend gereinigt, desinfiziert und aufpoliert. Die gesamte Elektrik behandelt. Der Hals eingestellt für eine super Saitenlage. Griffbrett und Bünde gesäubert, behandelt, geölt und Geschliffen.
Der Bass ist ein frühes Model ohne Tonabnehmer Wahlschalter. Die Volume/Tone Regelung ist Vintage verdrahtet und beeinflusst sich gegenseitig und hier werden auch die Tonabnehmer zu oder ausgeregelt. Der Steg ist lose und lässt sich frei bewegen.

Here we have a beauty Höfner 185 Artist shortscale bass from 1963. A fat pressing sound from the 60s – A masterpiece from Höfner that time. Very nice rare piece – Usually the Tolex is in the snakeskin look and black on the back – Here a different pattern was used and the bass is completely in white Tolex
The bass hast he famous Staple Bar Pickup. The same that are used in the 500/1 Violin Bass and the same type that Paul McCartney used in his violin bass from the same year.
The bass is from 1963! This means that he has wear! The white Tolex has got a cream touch over the years. It has not yellowed completely evenly. There is hardly any shrinkage on the sides and the black binding is still in great condition and fits completely everywhere. The pickguard is crack-free, but has scratches. Shines and reflects but still very beautiful. The general condition is well maintained, but you can see the age of the instrument. The neck has been repainted black on the back. The mechanic of the D string are a bit sluggish than the others, but work reliably. A mechanical sleeve is missing from the G mechanism. Both pickups, or 3 of 4 coils from the humbuckers, were rewound by me. Pickups that I have rewound are authentic. I use the same type of wire; the same tape and crepe material; the same turn direction; same number of turns; Same assembly technique – there is no audible difference to an original. The controllers work noiseless and crack-free.
I have given the bass a major overhaul. I thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and polished the vinyl. The entire electronics dealt with. The neck adjusted for a great string position. Fretboard and frets cleaned, treated, oiled and sanded.
The bass is an early model without a pickup selector switch. The Volume / Tone control is vintage wired and influences each other and here the pickups can mixed on or off. The bridge is loose and can be moved freely.
